Jerry World Trip Round 2

So I don't think I'll be attending another Cowboys game this year, or maybe ever. I've been to two games this season. The MNF game against the Bear's which I would rather never speak of again, and then the NY ass Giants game yesterday. Now, I know some of you who probably are only mediocre sport's fans probably are saying "Oh, it was a great game, they almost came back! How can't you love the effort they put into coming back"? I'll tell you why....because we still LOST. Remember when you were on that team with the fat kid back in elementary school and you lost a game and his Dad would always say "Hey, it's how hard you try, not the result"? Yeah, you're being that guy. Nobody likes that chode. As a matter of fact, the thought of having to even be known to associate with that guy is sickening. Now onto my actual thoughts of what the hell actually happened yesterday.

First, I want to say that the Cowboy's e-mail to season ticket holders about making crowd noise on 3rd down completely worked. The stadium was twice as loud yesterday than it was on MNF. The bad thing is that we didn't even know it until Romo was three picks deep and it was boo's you were hearing instead of cheering. I really don't understand what the hell was going on out there. The fact that you just pretty much spot the World Champions twenty-three points is so outrageous to me. These are professionals who go out on the field and play like actual retards. Romo gets ZERO credit for anything yesterday. Oh, you almost led us back? You threw for 400+ yards? Great man, cool. Your pretty much the kid with the fastest wheelchair. I can't understand how a NFL quarterback can be this inconsistent.

Second, Felix Jones is probably the worst first round draft pick the Cowboys have ever taken. He literally fumbles or does something wrong whenever we actually need him to make a play or just fall down instead of fighting for an extra yard and a half. I just can't even talk about how terrible the timing was for that fumble yesterday.

Third, Dez Bryant has to be one of the biggest idiot's to play the game of football. You can't just make up your own routes. Where has it been ok for someone to do that? Romo isn't good enough to just know that you're going to do whatever the hell you want. Then I even have to worry about you fielding punts. I knew right whenever the punt went up that the angle he took to catch the ball was not looking good. Not only did he muff the punt, but then he decides to not run with ball high and tight but keep it just flailing outside of his body and puts it on the ground again. It's really hard to do this because how can your most electric player be someone that you have to worry about to make a bonehead play? The only way he could've redeemed himself is if the caught the pass at the end of the game. This is a guy who has a lot of stupid drops already and if it wasn't ironic enough that it all ended with him catching the toughest pass he's ever had to catch in the NFL, but he has a fingernail out of bounds. It's amazing to me that it had to be him. Under some much scrutiny week in and week out and he's the one it comes down to. There's always a "but" with Dez and they just keep continuing.

Now there was some good things but not many. The defense played absolutely lights out. They shut down probably one of the best offense's in the league and nothing fired me up more than watching Sensabaugh make what seems to be his first big play ever, just light Cruz up! Props the entire defense though I was very proud of their perfomance. I also think we just saw Claiborne prove that he deserves to be a starting corner in the NFL as well.

Jason Witten probably had his best career game with the Cowboys. Whenever everyone thought he might be running out of gas and that his career would be slowing down he proves everyone wrong. Hauling in eighteen receptions for 167 yards was something nobody had ever done for the Cowboys. The reception mark was third all time for the NFL, and he let every Cowboys fan know that he still has plenty in the tank. Thank you Witten for actually showing that somebody still cares to play good football on this team.

Honorable Mention: Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, yeah he still had a good game even though he played an idiotic first quarter and couldn't be clutch whatsoever, Ernie Sims, Jay Ratliff, Brandon Carr, Offensive line.

The game yesterday is something that will stick with Cowboys fans for awhile. In my memory it might be the most memorable game of this decade, maybe second to when the Boys came back and beat the Eagles on the Roy Williams pick a few years back. It could have been one of the most memorable games in their history if Dez Bryant makes the catch but unfortunately that isn't the case. But I do think this game will dictate how the rest of the season goes. It could fire them up to finally play a whole sixty minutes because they know they can compete with the best of them now, or they lose any kind of confidence they have after suffering a blowing defeat like that. The way I see it, is that you still have a chance in this league until you have a nine in the loss column so until that happens there's still a chance.

Dallas Cowboys vs. N.Y. Ass Giants

Well, I'm nutting up this week. If you're a regular reader you know that I attended the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bear's Monday Night Football game earlier this season. You'll also know that I was more embarrassed than I have ever been in my life to call my self a Cowboys fan that night. I know most of you probably think I'm crazy for going back, but that's what I love about sports. No matter what, you have to support your team. Through the hard times....because when they turn to good times it's the greatest feeling in the world. I'll shut up about my personal feelings now.

On to the actual game, everyone knows the Cowboys won the first match-up of the season. It was not near as close as the score showed but these aren't the same Cowboys and these aren't the same Giants. Amukamura is back, and the Giant's aren't playing with a bunch of fourth string corners this week. Same with the Cowboys, but they have losses. No Sean Lee, and no Barry "The Deacon" Church, which I think will play a big role in the game. Sean Lee is the emotional leader on this team in my eyes. He is the only player that I can see other than Ratliff who played every single down of the game 100%. He's a big loss obviously. It also doesn't help that Eli Manning is playing out of his mind right now, and that he has probably the best wide receiver's in the entire NFL.

I'm going to personally challenge Claiborne, Carr, Scandrick, Jenkins, Sensabaugh, and McCray to play something like they did in the first game. Eli didn't have much success against the secondary which is the no.2 pass defense in league. If they play like that then I don't think there's much to worry about. Unlesssssssss Tony Romo goes out and throws picks out the ass like he did against the Bears the last time I was at Jerry World. I will personally promise every Cowboys fan that if this happens I will send Tony Romo non-stop dick pic's until he gets the message that he's playing like a real dick and is pissing every Cowboys fan off.

I personally think the Cowboys will win a nail-biter. However, a peer of mine tried to wager me and due to American laws I will not follow through on it. I don't condone law breaking like this individual does. But if you want my opinion I would take the Cowboys in any and all bets. Both teams are going to come out swinging and there really is not telling whose going to win when these two play each other. I pray to God the Boys pull it out better than a high school kid. If they don't then I'm going to have to drink heavily....and it will be a long drive back to Stephenville.

College Football Week 8 Wrap-Up

Well, I'll say that going into week eight I thought we had a few good games that you couldn't miss if you considered yourself a college football fan, and then there were some that I thought were finished before they even started. I was wrong on most of these predictions, starting with Florida and South Carolina. I've been raving on South Carolina all year, they do have one of the best defensive lines in the country with Jadeveon Clowney, and Devin Taylor. I thought Lattimore would have a great game also, that just wasn't the case. South Carolina literally went out there and handed Florida a win. It's widely known USC (The real one) that if you want to win a football game, you cannot turn it over. If any team turns the ball over four times like USC did then I am always going to say that team should lose. Driskell played well even though he didn't have to do much. 11-16 for 93 yards and a career high four touchdowns. I'm going to say the Florida team as a whole was my MVP for the weekend.

Then we have one that I thought was going to be a total massacre that ended up still kind of being a reality check for Texas A&M and Johnny Manziel. Also, I refuse to call him Johnny Football. You don't give players nicknames who still have not done anything. He's beaten Ole Miss, La Tech, SMU, South Carolina State, and Arkansas. Not that impressive, I'd say Mettenberger who might be the worst quarterback in the nation could do that on the same A&M team. But, after the first drive I thought LSU was in deep trouble, however that reminded me that they are a top five defense and that defense always prevails. Manziel played terrible throwing the ball, less than 300 yards, and three interceptions, almost less than 50% completion percentage as well. Tharold Simon made a great interception at the end of this game to seal the victory, and Jeremy Hill might be emerging as the next great running back in the SEC. LSU has a bye week this week and then host Alabama, I can honestly say that I think LSU has a shot in this game. Mettenberger finally made a big throw this past week and maybe thats what he needs to build some confidence against Alabama, however I wouldn't bet against them. They are overall the better team, but weirder things have happened in Death Valley on a saturday night so don't sleep on LSU.

Then Kansas State probably blew everyones mind taking West Virginia down big time. I didn't see it coming, the whole holding WVU to fourteen points that is. I expected this game to be high scoring, but I see Kansas State has a legit defense now. That or Geno Smith is Mettenberger 2.0 these past two weeks. Kansas State is now a legit contender for the National Championship, I think they could easily run the table and have the best chance to do so. Collin Klein might be a boring pick, but he might be the front-runner for the Heisman now as well, but don't sleep on Barkley after the six touchdown performance this last week, if he beats Oregon it might be his to lose.

Notre Dame is Just as Much of a Joke as Florida State

Notre Dame getting this much recognition is almost as ridiculous as Florida State fans saying that they were better than anybody in the SEC. Notre Dame has not been relevant since before I was even old enough to understand the sport of football. They haven't been competitive in ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM this decade. The fact that people are actually starting to buy in is something that is making my stomach cringe because of how many actual idiots there are in this country. The only person on this team who has any kind of a remote future in the NFL is Manti Te'o and Tyler Seifert. The last time Notre Dame was considered "The Chosen Ones" was when they had the "can't miss" quarterback Brady Quinn, and now Chicago Cub's pitcher Jeff Samardzija. Last I remember that team got deflowered by LSU 41-14, and now there are people saying that this Notre Dame team that has no quarterback play whatsoever deserves to go to the ship? Everett Golson has a 58% completion, less than a thousand yards, and only four touchdowns compared to three picks. You probably have bells palsy if you think that they can compete for a championship.

Now I know you're thinking "oh wait Caleb, look at their schedule," piss off. They almost lost to Purdue who hasn't been relevant since the Geneva Convention, a Michigan State team that runs the ball forty times a game, a Michigan team which has to be the worst team ever allowed to be in the top 25, and a middle tier Pac-12 team in Stanford. Yeah, Stanford took USC to the outhouse, but let me be the first to tell you this, I was ALL ON the Barkley bandwagon at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, they have zero offensive line, and an even worse defense. I wasn't that impressed with the Stanford win. Still, I'll give it to Notre Dame that we'll call it a "quality win". I promise you this readers, Notre Dame will lose to Oklahoma by 14+, and USC will be a close game, maybe too close to call. Thank God, they scheduled OU, because if they didn't then in a few months we would be watching a 40+ point non-consent beat down by Alabama over the Irish. The thing is, is that the NCAA needs to realize that the Pac-12, Big 12, and the SEC are the only conferences that deserve a shot to be in the national championship. Ohio State has gone 0-2 against the SEC alone in the NCG, and their the ONLY team that is worth a damn in the Big 10. Don't even get me started on Florida State and the ACC, and the Big East lost it's only decent team in West Virginia to the Big 12. If Notre Dame ends up somehow running the table and playing Bama, I won't even bother to watch. We'll all already know the outcome.

We've Had a Good Run: The Michael Young Saga's Last Installment

I've been a Texas Ranger's fan since almost birth. My dad has been a Ranger's fan and his dad before him. Michael Young came to the Texas Ranger's organization in the 2000, about the time I was starting to actually become a big-time sports fan. So i've been watching Michael Young for awhile now, and if your a Texas Ranger's fan so have you. These last twelve years have been pretty awesome, other than the years of being totally insignificant in the American League west. Michael is a .301 career hitter. Probably one of the best hitters in this decade, and I think in Ranger's history. He's a seven time all-star, and gold-glove winner and an American League batting champion. In my eye's he's a no brainer in the Hall of Fame, so why would we let him walk?

The Texas Ranger's have probably had the three most successful seasons in franchise history. I know they choked at the end of this year but still, it was a playoff appearance. Michael has played a significant role in each of those three seasons. He wasn't a starter these past two, but still had over 500 at bats. Well unfortunately we finally saw some of the aging of Michael. He had the worst statistical season of his career. He hit.277, with eight home runs, and sixty-seven RBI's. He is turning thirty-six this week and has one year left on his contract. Guess how much were paying him?

Figure it out? Were paying him $16 million dollars this season. Only players like A-Rod, Ryan Howard, Pujols, Prince Fielder, are paid a few million dollars more than that. For about $16 million you can get a Jered Weaver, Andre Ethier, or a Jose Reyes. Personally, I would take one of those guys over Michael Young any day. I also refuse to hold any kind of attachment to players. 

Then there's the number reason why I think we should let him walk. Jurickson Profar, the man, the myth, the legend (Thanks Jared Bourcier). The Ranger's have Beltre signed through 2015, and Elvis Andrus signed through 2014 (If we don't trade him). That means we'll have Mitch Moreland, Mike Olt, Ian Kinsler if he doesn't move to the outfield, Elvis Andrus, Beltre, and Profar. Profar is a top prospect, and future super-star. He needs to get into the line-up ASAP, and with Michael Young still here it will be almost impossible. Let Profar be the utility infielder, at least until Kinsler or Elvis are gone. 

If the Ranger's want to be the "good" guys here, I suppose if we don't trade him next year at least let him play utility again and DH, but give him fewer at bats. He deserves to not be shoved out, but if he isn't producing we can't afford to let him take precious bats away from Profar, or Olt. 

Let me say this though, I have had the great opportunity these past twelve years to watch an amazing player light up the opposing pitchers. He is a great baseball player and deserves to be called that. I would like to see him stay another decade but we all know that no player can play forever, unless your Julio Franco, and I would hate to see Michael become that. 

Drugs, and Other Things

The latest victim of the NCAA drug policy was Casey Pachall. I know he was arrested for driving while intoxicated in the Ft. Worth area, and I do not condone drunk driving whatsoever. However, this was Pachall's second strike on things that are not accepted in college football. In August Texas Christian University announced that Pachall had failed a drug test given in February and that was two weeks after the drug sting on the TCU campus occurred. Had this not happened, Pachall would likely be sitting out for a few games tops. Drugs and alcohol might mix if your not a collegiate athlete, but if you are those are for some reason things to stay away from.

A few names in the past few years that have missed games due to drug suspensions in college include Tyrann Mathieu, Dorial Green-Beckham, Sammy Watkins, Greg Reid, and Michael Dyer. If you don't think that all of those players I just named are big time losses for their team than you must be illiterate. Mathieu was the most electric defensive player in the country last year, Beckham is the top freshman wide-receiver this year for Missouri and the country, Sammy Watkins was one of the best wide-receivers last year, Greg Reid was Florida State's punt and kick returner, and Michael Dyer was part of the backfield that led Auburn to the national championship two years ago. All of these players dreams could be damaged or completely gone after getting in trouble for a bit of pot more than likely. Drug's is also something that I do not condone, however, I don't see how the NCAA see's it fit to penalize these 18-22 year olds for doing something probably every one else around them is. These are kids for the most part and your a fool if you don't think that they are going to make a mistake or two. And then the NCAA probably tells them well you need find some positive role model. Now, I'm going on a reach here but if your an african-american and have a role model it's not out of the question for that person to be Barack Obama. Now, I do not support Obama but I do like the fact that he was open about his drug use in college. He admitted to "inhaling" pot, and doing cocaine. So the country tells these kids you can do drugs in college and still get elected president, but you can't do these drugs and play college football for us to make billions on and not get paid? Doesn't add up to me. Tyrann Mathieu wasn't even suspended for doing drugs. He smoked some synthetic marijuana. He was even smart about it and bought the legal stuff and STILL got caught.

From what I can see the NCAA is trying to become one of the most powerful groups of individuals in the country. Their fine with the president of their country smoking a joint every once in awhile in college and doing a little bit of nose candy, but if one of these eighteen year olds takes a puff his NFL career is over before it even starts. I'm not saying just tell these kids that they can smoke pot or anything but hell, it's legal to have it in some states and their still getting penalized. Give them a warning, give them a situation to look at, scare them straight, but don't ruin their lives over something that could probably be changed with a example of an ex-NFL player who let the drugs get the best of him.

 I dare the NCAA to take a hard look at themselves and look at what they would be without these athletes. Yeah, probably broke and non-existant.

Texas Ranger's: Why Failure was Inevitable

If your a Dallas sports fan than what happened friday evening at the Ballpark in Arlington shouldn't surprise you. We have had to deal with some of the most under-achieving teams in the Dallas-Ft.Worth area for awhile now. The Cowboys are always hyped up to be a super bowl contender and never seem to even make the playoffs. Yeah, at least the Rangers are making the playoffs again, but they can't seem to win the big game, and the Mavericks.....don't even get me started. That one championship was nice, but I don't see another one in the Dirk era.

If you went into the American League Wild Card game friday with high hopes as a Ranger's fan, than you aren't somebody who watches them every day. If you truly watched them down the stretch, the last game of the year against the A's felt eerily close to that of game six of the World Series last year against the St. Louis Cardinals. Yeah, we weren't out of it. But you just felt depleted. Josh can't hit the ball, our pitching sucks, Kinsler is making stupid errors, yeah I saw it all coming. The entire team was in free fall for awhile. We struggled almost all year against our division. They went 27-30 against teams from the A.L. West. That is absolutely pathetic. Were talking about a division with the Seattle Mariner's and the Oakland A's. I don't care what you say about Oakland. They had five rookies in the starting rotation and if your a back to back World Series team you don't lose to them eleven out of nineteen times. We couldn't ever win the big game this year. And I blame that on Josh Hamilton. I don't think I've ever put so many eggs in one basket. Yea, he'll hit four home runs in one game against Baltimore when it doesn't count but call on him when you really need him and he'll sit because he drank to much caffeine, or he'll just go up there and swing at the first three pitches. I hope this is the last time I see him in a Ranger's uniform, he doesn't care about the Rangers, or the Ranger's fans.
